(ELSBERRY, MO) The St. Louis Surge women’s professional basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season following Sunday’s 90-69 road victory over the Midwest Flyers at Elsberry High School.
The 21-point duke over the Flyers (5-2) pushed St. Louis to the top of the five-team WBCBL Midwest Division standings.
Trailing 18-16 after the first quarter, the Flyers outscored the Surge, 18-14, in the second frame and possessed a 34-32 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw St. Louis pick up the pace offensively and produce a 25-16 stanza that resulted in the Surge holding a 57-50 heading into the final quarter.
Down the stretch, St. Louis widened the differential with solid execution from the charity stripe. The Surge outscored the Flyers, 33-19, resulting in the 90-69 road triumph that kept the team’s record spotless.
With their undefeated road schedule now concluded, the Surge launches their home campaign this upcoming weekend at their new local venue, Washington University’s Field House. St. Louis’ Saturday 7 p.m. game versus Iowa Force (0-2) begins a stretch of four WBCBL-sanctioned games and five overall.
